Creatine for older adults: muscle research in context

Creatine alongside resistance training: understand the opportunity for muscle and strength, then choose your first format.

Making strength a priority is a worthwhile long-term habit. Creatine can be considered alongside resistance training: studies in older adults have found additional gains in some strength and lean-mass measures. Here is how that research can guide a practical first choice.

Support the strength work you already do

A suitable resistance-training program is the starting point. Creatine is a supplement to consider alongside that work, with research focused on measurable muscle and strength outcomes.

Your age, health and exercise experience help determine which findings are relevant to you. The aim is to choose a useful addition to your routine with expectations that fit your circumstances.

A reason to consider the combination

In a 32-week trial involving 39 adults aged 50–71, creatine alongside resistance training improved strength more than placebo. The group taking it after training also had a greater lean-mass increase. The dose was based on body weight. Read the Candow trial.

Another trial in 60 older women found advantages in bench-press strength and appendicular lean mass with creatine plus training, but not greater leg-press gains than training with placebo. Read the Gualano trial.

Those findings support considering creatine with exercise. They do not demonstrate fewer falls or guaranteed independence, and taking a supplement alone is a different proposition.

Explore the Starter for your routine

Make the daily addition straightforward

Once supplementation fits your plans, follow the product directions and choose a familiar daily moment. AEVA’s Starter format brings 300 g of creatine and a reusable jar together: 60 servings at 5 g each.

For replenishment, a 150 g pouch provides another 30 servings. The format stays familiar from the first jar to the next refill.

Begin without a recurring commitment

Starter only is a one-time purchase. It gives you the jar and first supply while leaving the next order to you. You can consider Auto-refill separately if regular deliveries become useful.

For a strength-focused routine, this keeps the product decision manageable: choose your first jar, measure the serving and keep working toward your exercise goals.

For adults. Follow the product directions. If you have a medical condition, take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss supplementation with a qualified clinician before use. New weakness, reduced mobility or unexplained weight loss need clinical assessment.
